Workers Choose CWA at Bresnan Communications
In three straight separate elections, Bresnan Communications workers have voted to be represented by the Communications Workers of America.
In October 2003, the Techs and CSSRs of Laramie, Wyoming, voted to join CWA in their second election in 2 months. An earlier election was tainted by Bresnan management, but CWA prevailed with the National Labor Relations Board who ordered a new election. The unpredictability that comes from having 4 owners in 5 years was a serious concern.
In November, in Montrose, Colorado, CWA members reaffirmed their support for CWA, and defeated a decertification attempt by a 2 to 1 margin. Eight of the twelve members signed a Resolution of Support for their union that has represented them since March 23, 2000. Multiple captive audience meetings, promises, visits from various VP's, and even Bill Bresnan himself could not persuade these members that they would be better off without their union.
In Grand Junction, Colorado, 10 CSSRs joined their CWA represented co-workers in March 2004. Major issues were favoritism, loss of all CSSR titles, a lack of respect, and the transfer of sales calls and work to the call center in Billings, Montana.
