Cable Techs at Penn Hills, PA Win CWA Representation

Victory Brings to 700 the Number of ATT Broadband Workers in Western PA Who Have Voted for CWA

Following the lead of more than 700 AT&T Broadband workers who have gained CWA representation in western Pennsylvania, 68 technicians at the cable company’s Penn Hills (Pittsburgh) office won a voice in their workplace on Dec. 6. The vote in the Dec. 6 secret-ballot election was 37 to 26 for union representation with CWA, the Communications Workers of America

Workers won support and assistance in their campaign from employees at other newly-organized AT&T Broadband locations in the state. These new CWA members helped their co-workers overcome the fear of publicly supporting and voting for a union.

The employees’ organizing committee did a good job of producing and distribution campaign handouts and responding to comments by managers. The workers’ election victory leaves only two offices in the Pittsburgh area which have yet to organize.

Since March, 725 cable workers in Pennsylvania have won collective bargaining rights with CWA through election victories at AT&T Broadband facilities in Penn Hills, South Hills, Pittsburgh, Caralopis, Cannonsburg & Washington.
