CWA and IBEW are Fighting to Protect Our Interests as Workers

As the Adelphia-Time Warner-Comcast moves ahead, we will continue fighting to protect cable workers' jobs, wages and benefits.

In Government:
We have written hundreds of letters and made many calls to politicians and government officials in such areas as Los Angeles, Dallas, Cleveland, Utica, Vermont, Massachusetts, Colorado, Minnesota and dozens of communities in Pennsylvania. We are urging officials to attach conditions to any approvals, to pass resolutions to protect the jobs, wages and benefits of the workers being transferred, and to seek added protections if the current operator is not meeting its franchise obligations or service standards.

At the FCC:
Our unions have jointly filed formal comments and met with staff urging the FCC to address worker and consumer issues. In response to our formal comments to the FCC, Comcast promised to "respect existing contracts with Adelphia employees following the proposed Transactions."

Before Congress:
We have written members of Congress and held individual meetings with the lawmakers urging them to protect workers' jobs, wages, benefits and rights, and to protect consumers by insuring that Time Warner and Comcast allow other networks to carry their regional sports programming at reasonable prices.

At the NLRB:
CWA has filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board over Adelphia's violations of workers' rights. Adelphia has refused to turn over financial information to its employees' unions as required, and it negotiated a hiring deal with Time Warner and Comcast that would discriminate against union-represented employees.
